Las Vegas City Guide

Mis à jour : 20 avr. 2019

I recently had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas. Ken had to attend a trade show there, so I decided to go along to visit the city while he worked. I had a lot of fun! We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days, which was more than enough time to get a proper feel of the city and to check out many of the sights.

Below you will find some of the places I visited, and I highly recommend.

What to see/do

Visiting the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign may sound a little weird, but what better way to start your trip off than with an official welcome selfie?!? I suggest going early to beat the heat and crowds of other #selfie lovers.

The Casinos - with every casino having a unique theme, it’s fun to walk around and check them all out, even if you’re not planning to gamble. Of course, I love the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. With its replicas of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe, it’s definitely a must-see.

While at Paris, make sure to walk across the street to visit The Bellagio Hotel & Casino. Make sure to witness the iconic outdoor water fountain show, which plays every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour, starting at 3pm.

I also enjoyed visiting The Venetian Hotel & Casino. With its architectural replicas of various Venetian landmarks, including Plaza San Marco and Palazzo Ducale, you almost think you’re in Venice.

Finally, make sure to stop by The Flamingo Hotel & Casino. Opened in 1946, it was the first luxury hotel ever built on the strip. Go at night, as the iconic neon sign is a site you must see all lit up.

The Shark Reef Aquarium in the Mandala Bay Hotel & Casino is a great exhibit if you have any interests for sharks. The self-guided tour takes about 40min.

The Titanic Artifact Exhibition in the Luxor Hotel & Casino is probably one of the most interesting exhibitions I have ever seen. I stayed nearly 3 hours studying actual items that had been under water for more than 100 years. I became extremely interested in the story of Titanic after watching the movie many years ago. So naturally, I found the exhibit fascinating.

The Shows, either a concert, magic show or any kind of show really, I highly recommend seeing at least one during your stay. We saw Mystere, which was the very first show that started the Cirque du Soleil phenomenon. Even though I enjoyed it, I wasn’t particularly impressed.

High Roller - being the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, it’s a must see! The ride lasts a bit less than 30 min. Once at the top, you will be able to enjoy amazing views of the Las Vegas Strip.

Where to eat

Wolfgang Puck’s Spago in The Bellagio Hotel & Casino - the Italian restaurant offers amazing views of the Bellagio fountains, as well as the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.

Mon Ami Gabi in The Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino - the French brasserie faces the Bellagio Hotel & Casino and its fountains. I would recommend to reserve a table on the terrace to have dinner, so you can enjoy the Bellagio fountain and people watching.

Yard Bird in The Venetian Hotel & Casino - the perfect place to enjoy American Southern cuisine.

Where to have a cocktail

Mandarin Bar - Although the Mandarin Oriental Hotel will soon be closing and replaced by Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria, the view from the bar isn’t going anywhere! Perched on the 23rd floor and directly above the strip, it’s the perfect spot to have a few cocktails and take in the neon lights below.

Where to stay

Ken and I stayed at the Mandala Bay Hotel. Because Ken’s pet trade show was at the Mandala Bay convention center, he wanted to stay on property for convenience. Our room was nice, but being located at the far end of the strip, for me, the location was a little out of the way.

How to get around

Even though I basically spent 3 days on one street, I highly recommend Lyft for help getting around. Unfortunately, most hotels and shopping malls require the pickup location for ride shares to be in a separate area (far from the front door’s taxi queue), but it’s well worth the walk for the savings and security. And for added convenience, after you select your pick up location, the app will direct you to the Lyft pickup location.
