A Visit Of Southfork Ranch : On The Footprints Of JR And Sue Ellen
A few weeks ago, Ken, my mum and I visited the Southfork Ranch, used as the setting for the original and continuation 'Dallas' series.
When I asked my mum if she would be interested in visiting the ranch, her answer was "YES!!!" with no hesitation. I was pretty excited myself, I have to admit.
When I was a kid, I used to watch 'Dallas' with my mother. We would always make sure not to plan anything else during show time. It was a big deal for us. It was a big deal for a lot of people across the world. Back then, I had no idea that one day I would actually walk around the home of the Ewing family. I also had no idea that one day I would live in Dallas. Life is full of surprises, isn't it?
Some people, especially non-local people, might not know that the Southfork Ranch is actually not located in Dallas. It's located about 25 miles (40 km) North of Dallas, in a very small town called Parker.
The house was built in 1970 by Joe Duncan and was known as Duncan Acres, named after his family. The house, or shall we call it the mansion due to its size, is 5,900 sq ft (550 m2) with a 957 sq ft (88.9 m2) enclosed garage that was turned into a den/card room. The rooms and the furniture in them are pretty dated, but the outside of the mansion looks still very up-to-date.
I encourage anyone who used to watch 'Dallas' to visit the Southfork Ranch. You won't be disappointed.
